Parish Church closed for health and safety reasons. Whilst removing greenery from the tower and spire it became clear that some of the masonry was not secure (note the spire window facing over the nave - daylight can be seen through the stones). The church has now been closed pending additional work. Please do not cross the barrier.
Scaffolding to support the spire may be erected soon. English Heritage are due to visit the church to see if grant support for the repairs can be given. It appears that some of the masonry is very thin - having been turned around in the Victorian restoration to expose the non-weathered side to the elements. What remains is now very very thin! and is not safe.
